Sufganiyot are a Jewish fried doughnut eaten to celebrate Hanukkah. Also known a Ponchkes in Yiddish or Jelly Bismarks in German.  A Sufganiyah is a fried doughnut. Traditionally they are made with apricot or raspberry jam but newer recipes include chocolate, cream filling and all kinds of other fun modern takes on the traditional recipe. Traditional Sufganiyot Recipe

A classic sufganiyot recipe sure to be cherished by your family.
Ingredients:

2 packets active dry yeast (1 tablespoon plus 1/2 teaspoon)
3/4 cup lukewarm water (105°F to 115°F)
1 cup granulated sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Although they don’t carry the Hanukkah tradition of foods fried in oil, baked sufganiyot can be a healthier alternative to deep fried ones:
